Easter Weekend Driving tips
Easter is a great time for getting away and exploring New Zealand. However with so many people travelling on the road, it’s important to take extra care when driving your campervan. It’s a sad fact that 12 people died on New Zealand roads last Easter break, this year Police are focusing on wearing seat belts, driver’s crossing the centre line and getting slower vehicles to let traffic behind them safely pass. Easter time is renowned for people driving long distances on the Thursday night, to get to their destination and spend as long as possible there.
Campermate has some campervan driving tips for you if you are heading away this coming weekend:
-
Try to take a rest every two hours of driving time. This will prolong the distance you can travel comfortably and alert.
-
If you see a long line of traffic starting to form behind you, pull over and let them pass before continuing. There are many erratic and impatient drivers in New Zealand that will attempt to pass in crazy situations. It’s best to pull over and let them pass before it gets to this point
-
If you are planning on leaving on the Thursday night, make sure you get adequate rest in the nights leading up to your departure
-
Put your headlights on during the day time also, you’ll be much more visible to drivers coming the other direction.
-
The Easter weekend weather is predicted to be showery, if you’re driving in heavy conditions consider pulling over and waiting it out
