The Gisborne region (also known as Eastland) is situated on the east coast of New Zealand and has some of New Zealand’s best coastal activities and scenery. It’s an amazing feeling to be cruising along the coast in your campervan as every day feels like a Sunday with a relaxed way of life amongst the many communities situated along the coast. Pack a surfboard or a snorkel for your trip as you’ll find many fantastic spots and create some fantastic memories.
The Gisborne District Council has a great attitude toward freedom camping and have setup a permit system, one of which must be purchased prior to setting up camp. One permit is issued for up to 6 people, your permit will cost:
• $10 for 2 nights (up to 2 nights – 1 rubbish bag)
• $25 for 10 nights (over 2 up to 10 nights – 5 rubbish bags)
• $60 for 28 nights (over 10 up to 28 nights – 14 rubbish bags)
