Free Campsites in the Taupo Region
Lake Taupo would have to be a favourite visitor destinations of many with it’s vast array of visitor attractions, great campervan parking (near the centrally located i-SITE) not to mention New Zealand’s largest lake which has arguably some of the best trout fishing in the world. The town is very well presented and does a great job at making visitors feel welcome. In addition to being a beautiful lake, it also has some amazing towns within the region that are worth exploring. Travelling the Desert Road to get to Taupo can be a great experience in itself, just make sure you stop in Waiouru to get plenty of fuel. Below are a few points within the region that are designated as free campsites by the council. Many councils in New Zealand are going through a review process at present so stay tuned for updated information.
