Free Campsites in the Marlborough Sounds

Marlborough Sounds, situated at the top of the South Island is one of the most beautiful areas in New Zealand. Driving the 40km Queen Charlotte Drive in your campervan would have to be one of the most beautiful drives in New Zealand. While the road has many tight corners and requires attention in many places, the beauty is cinematic with lush green nature on one side and beautiful views of the sounds on the other. There are many pull-off points which gave you ample chance to stop and take it all in. The council has an open-minded attitude toward freedom camping but like many other councils are currently reviewing their policies. There are six designated campsites for self-contained vehicles, three of which contain toilets.
