It all started in 2006 while on my Uni holidays when I decided to ride a 50cc scooter the length of New Zealand. Why exactly, I’m not entirely sure but it was a heck of a lot of fun..From Cape Reinga (North) to Sterling Point (South) and riding at a maximum speed of 55 km/hour I explored this fantastic country I’m lucky enough to call my home.

With just a video camera, tent, spare petrol can and a backpack, it was a great way to explore New Zealand and meet some great people along the way. The trip wasn’t all leisure however, as I also recorded points of interest; logging their GPS position and have continued to do this in my spare time (not on a scooter) since in a campervan. Capturing this data and turning into something that can benefit people travelling this country is what the project is all about.

We believe that by providing accurate information to freedom campers, it will reduce the impact that freedom camping is having on the environment and create a better freedom camping experience. Check out the CamperMate Facebook page to get in touch or on Twitter

Until then, safe travels!
